What is Food For Change all about?
Food For Change grows and rescues fresh nutritious food to feed those in need.
How long have you been operating?
Just under two years
Where did the idea start?
The idea started in 2016 in Melbourne with the realisation that there was plenty of vacant land that could be farmed to provide quality fresh food to those in need. Since then we have set up our first major farm site and currently we are trilling our community garden growing program and local community food rescue program.
How do TOWNHALL Citizens or visitors get involved? Are you open to collaboration – if so, what kind?
We would love the Townhall Citizens to not only help us raise awareness on social media but to volunteer at our Melbourne farm site!
Do you have any success stories?
In the first 18 months we have grown enough food for over 34,000 meals to those in need across Victoria and since August 2018 our rescue program has rescued enough food for over 4000 meals and is growing rapidly!
Are you raising funds for anything specific or rallying for a specific cause right now?
We are looking to expand our growing program nationally and looking for site sponsors. The sites cost $5000 to set up and only $1000 a year to run. with the ability to produce thousands of meals a year.
